Ruminant Digestion!

I taught ruminant digestion to my students, then they made a video. It's not the best because we were short on time, but I'm still extremely proud of them!

Some Helpful Websites:

A few extra Website to accompany the 5 I evaluated! :)

Website Evaluations

I have gone through several websites looking for valid information to use when teaching in my classroom. This is a list of websites I found that would benefit my class:

Website Evaluations:
1. Name of Site: National Wildlife Association
2. Website Address:  http://www.nwf.org/
3. Copyright Date/Last Update:  2012
4. Author/Organization Credentials: This Site is owned by the National Wildlife Federation ("NWF"). NWF maintains this Site for your personal, educational, non-commercial purposes. Certain pages feature online ordering capabilities.
5. Web Site Design and Ease of Navigation: The design is simple enough. There is a bar on the top where you decide where you want to go, and a side bar where you can donate, shop, renew, or adopt. There are several blogs you can get to from this site and they are right on the front page. There is a wildlife tab at the top where you can go and learn about different species of animals which would be quite handy in a wildlife class. The appearance appeals to the animal lover. There is a cute seal on the front that will attract students to want to look for more similar beloved animals.
6. Response and Recommendation for Use: This website contains excellent information for students to use when they want to learn more about wildlife. You could learn about wildlife animals you know nothing about, and their environment. One of the goals of this website is conservation which is a big topic in Agriculture on how to preserve and conserve more so we can provide for this world in the best possible means. We only have one planet currently available to populate and thus we need to take excellent care of it for our future generations. If we can influence kids to keep this in mind, perhaps we can improve the way this world is going. There are excellent photos available for kids to explore and expand their understanding of different animals and their niches. Looking at the plants on this website teaches you why each one is important in the eco system and which ones are edible as opposed to poisonous. There are suggestions here on how to survive if you get lost in the wilderness and how to react when you are alone with the wildlife. There are some mentions of people disagreeing with hunting or fishing, however most are pretty strict at not debating this argument.

1.    Name of Site: ICEV Online
2.   Website: http://www.icevonline.com
3.   Copyright Date: © 2013 iCEV
4 .  Author/Organization Credentials: CEV Multimedia, Ltd., founded in 1984, is on the forefront of innovative educational materials. CEV specializes in providing quality curriculum and educational resources for the subject areas of Agricultural Science & Technology, Business & Marketing, Family & Consumer Sciences, Trade & Industry and Career Orientation.
5. Web Site Design and Ease of Navigation:: ICEV is a great website complete with lesson plans and teaching curriculum. I have found this website to be extremely handy when looking for powerpoints or lesson plans to assist in planning classes. At first I was a little confused by how it works, but once you play with it a little bit, you get the basic gist.
6. Response and recommendations for use: This website allows students to practice for judging contests, provides teachers with lessons and ideas for lesson to bring to class. Each lesson is well planned out and organized for easy integration into the classroom

1. Name of site: Quality Counts
2. Website:  www. agrilife.org/qualitycounts.com
 3. Copyright Date: 2013
4, Author: Texas A&M AgriLife Extension
5. Web Site Design and Ease of Navigation: Quality Counts website helps students learn proper care for their livestock animals. Every FFA student who raises any animals is required to learn the information on this website and complete a test. Navigating this website is easy enough for any person. There are games, and a plethora of information available.
6. Response and Recommendations for use: I would have students work on this for about a week, playing games and reading articles set forth to teach them basic care for livestock animals. It is truly a valuable resource, when we as teachers want to express how important proper care for animals is.

1. Web Site: National FFA Organization
2. Address: http://www.ffa.org/
3. Copyright: 2013, National FFA Organization
4. Design/Navigation: Having used this website since I was in highschool, I have never had an issue navigating it. It has pictures of students from the past year so that when students look at it and they find theirselves, they feel a sense of accomplishment.
5. Response and Recommendations for use: This website represents the organization I love. I love how they made information about the FFA available online. I use this website to share information with my students of the rich history of FFA, the proper use of parlimentary procedure, and rules and guidelines for contests. I would have students look on this webpage and find certain dates and information that correlate with the FFA.
